Who are we?
We are me and my girls of course. My name is Manette Logan and my
girls are Ally, Katie and Emma. I have owned and trained Irish
Setters since 1995. They are an incredibly easy breed to train
and they are a lot of fun to work with. I added my Irish
Red and White Setter to the mix in 2003 and look forward to owning
and working with more of them in the future. The drive,
trainability and intensity of this breed won me over immediately.
I have been fortunate to have worked with several Irish Red and
White Setters over the past few years and am very impressed by their
temperament and natural instinct. I look forward to working
with and learning more about both of these breeds in the future.
Where does the name Eltin come from?
Eltin in Irish means lively and nimble. When I set out to find a
kennel name it was important to me to find one with Irish roots.
(It was also important that is was simple and easy to pronounce.)
I don't think I could have come up with a more fitting name for these
two wonderful breeds. They are agile, they are fast, they are
enthusiastic and they are entertaining. All in all, I would say they
are definitely lively and nimble.
What do we do? We do it all... Okay, at
least we like to try it all. My initial introduction to dog sports
was to the world of agility. I came from the horse jumping world
and making the transition to agility was quick and easy. The
thrill of handling your dog around an agility course clean is just as
incredible as having a clean round on your horse. Next came flyball
and conformation. I've also trained in obedience and scent
hurdle racing, tried out carting and lure coursing and then finally
made my way to the field trial and field dog test world. Field
work with Setters is amazingly rewarding. The natural instinct
and drive for these breeds to look for and find birds is there and
seeing them do what they were originally bred to do is a real treat.
What are we hoping to accomplish? First and foremost I am striving to produce dogs with sound minds
and bodies. My goal is to breed dogs that will be competitive in both
conformation and field. I believe it is important to maintain the
natural instinct that is still so prevalent in these breeds and still
maintain their structural balance. I
also feel it is important that my puppies are easy to live with and
fun to work with. My girls will have proven themselves in conformation,
field and other areas of trainability before they will be bred. It
is also important to me that they pass specific health tests prior to
breeding. I believe that by taking these steps I will help to
ensure that my goals with these breeds will be met.
